IED Barcelona students winners for a 2015 Laus Award

Camila Rodríguez and Katya Lazareva, both students on the Undergraduate Degree in Graphic Design, winners for a Laus Award 2015  thanks to their corporate identity proposal for Kalmar hotels.

The graphic system derives from the topographic representation of isostasy. Its most distinctive feature is the use of lines to create different volumes, in harmonious combination with typography and pictures. Each piece explores different contrasts and values to achieve visual richness and diversity, though not without those identifying elements that make the brand recognisable.

The project’s production is based on high quality and natural materials, such as cotton paper, wood and fabrics. The colour is inspired by “taiga”, a type of vegetation that populates Nordic countries. It is rendered in slight touches, with a combination of textures in black and white that prevails over the ensemble of coordinated elements. As regards signalling, the graphic system is applied to the real world by producing volumetric elements in milled wood in order to imitate isostatic forms.
