IED Barcelona signs its first scientific paper about the Design Thinking methodology alongside other universities and IdeaSquare@CERN

Luciana Leveratto, IED Barcelona Master Academic Dean, published her first scientific paper “Mixing Design, Management and Engineering students in challenge-based projects. Benefits, limitations and tradeoffs” alongside with ESADE Business School, TeleCom BCN Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Aalto University (Finland) and IdeaSquare@CERN, European Organization for Nuclear Research. The publication was presented in CDIO Annual International Conference 2016 in Turku, Finland.

The paper explores the impact of the Design Thinking methodology in the projects with multidisciplinary groups of students. The article is based on the experience of mixing design, business administration and engineering students in the Challenge Based Course Innovation organized in collaboration with IdeaSquare, a research facility created by CERN to provide innovative scientific solutions and product ideas that can benefit socially and globally.
The study analyzes how the Design Thinking method worked in the learning processes. In conclusion, it determines that it is a very efficient method for innovative people; it helps to develop entrepreneurial skills and to research future solutions.
