Hitting the international catwalks
Two former Fashion Design students have presented their collections in two of the most internationally renowned Fashion Weeks: London and New York.
Luis de Javier, a former student of the BA (Hons) Fashion Design, presented his autumn/winter 2020 collection in London Fashion Week’s Somerset House. Under the title “El invitado” [The guest] the collection, which includes corsets, pleats and cutouts used as armour, presents the catwalk as a battlefield and the models as fashion warriors. Further, the pieces go beyond the limits of masculinity and promote a more inclusive fashion, free of gender stereotypes.
Prisca Franchetti, a former student of the Undergraduate Degree in Fashion Design, presented an autumn 2020 collection in New York Fashion Week with her brand Priscavera, which focuses on easy to wear and comfortable clothing. The pieces by Priscavera maintain a feminine and sophisticated style and provide an added value: they can be adapted to any figure. Franchetti explains that she was inspired to create this collection of “essentials” by her friends of different body shapes and ages: “I wanted to design for all types of women and fill their wardrobes with pieces that they need as much as they want”, explains the designer.
With these two collections, IED students are making a real impression on the international catwalks, and are proving once again that fashion is not bound by nationality. We eagerly await their new projects!
