Barcelona Design Week 2018
Barcelona Design Week is back for its 2018 edition from 5 to 14 June. This year, the theme is “revaluating” and IED will be taking part with a variety of activities:
– On 11 June, IED will be holding the Work Together workshop, which aims to highlight the value of collaboration between students and master craftworkers in the learning process so as to create New Crafts. The School intends to ensure that master craftwork features on the CVs of future product designers by learning from the artisans themselves.
– “LATENT. Connecting companies with top talent from art and design schools” is an event geared towards young designers in an effort to draw in talent, discover new opportunities and share experiences. It will be held on 13 June during the BDW at the DHUB venue and is organised by BCD and FAD.
Throughout the day, from 10 am to 6 pm, a whole range of activities will be open to students and alumni from the School: talks to reveal the experience of young people working for companies with an interesting and positive story to tell from both sides; contact arrangements between students looking to hear what companies want and vice‑versa; group workshops to encourage individual skills, where young attendants, schools and businesses will work together to solve a challenge and discover one another’s capabilities and motivations in the process; self‑introduction booths; and spontaneous supply and demand gatherings.
To top it off, two former students who graduated in 2016-2017 will be at the IED stand showing some of their designs.
Those wishing to attend can sign up here.
– Meanwhile, teachers and alumni from the School will be displaying their designs in Perception, an installation that gathers the work of 15 designers to draw on human complexity by exploring the senses. From 6 to 14 June, the exhibition will be showing the work of Alejandro Goula (Goula/Figuera), Kiwi Bravo, Sebastián Alberdi, Sanna Völker and David Leon Fiene at espacio Ox Poblenou.
