An IED Barcelona project at the TEDxBarcelona Women 2017 exhibition “The Brave You”
The project “Female Genital Mutilation” by three students from IED Barcelona will be on display at “The Brave You”, an exhibition starting on 3 November at the Mazda Space in Barcelona. The exhibition is held on the occasion of TEDxBarcelona Women 2017, a high-impact conference organized annually in Barcelona with the aim of connecting, empowering and giving visibility to female talent.
The winning project of the silver Laus award has been designed by students Adra Kandil, Anna Hudayarova and Isabella Rood from the Undergraduate Degree in Graphic Design and IED Diploma in Creative Advertising and Branding, and seeks to raise awareness of female genital mutilation (FGM) through a book that tells real stories shared by victims. The main theme of the book is shown in the cut-outs on each page, which form layers that come to represent female genitalia. The pages are skin-colour and vary in hue, from light to dark.
With this project, the students wished to shout out the fact that one of the great stigmas of this social issue is living through it in silence. To do so, the students decided to give the victims a voice and create global awareness using visuals.
Date: From 3 to 30 November
Venue: Calle Comerç, 60 – Barcelona
