A Virtual Reality project by IED represents Spain in the final round of Red Bull Basement

Offland, a project by third year Graphic Design students at IED Barcelona Jonatan Torreblanca and Xabier Isasti, has been selected as the finalist for Spain in the third edition of the international social innovation challenge Red Bull Basement

The proposal, selected from 93 national projects, addresses the impact of current mobility restrictions on student travel by developing an online platform that merges virtual reality and physical environments.

Competing with students from over thirty countries, Offland has moved into the development phase. Its creators will now participate in a three-day global workshop and a final pitch, where the best idea from among the remaining candidates will be chosen. Prior to the global workshop, the students will further develop the idea, with the FabLab BCN team joining them as mentors.

The solution proposes a redesign of the traditional study trip model through a range of simultaneous events and activities related to music, e-sports and entertainment in general, which aim to connect university students from all over the world.

Not only conceived as a proposal to navigate the current context, Offland has the short- and long-term vocation of becoming a successful alternative to traditional study trips.

Other students also presented their ideas in the competition. Check them out:
