Next February 13th, Thursday, IED Barcelona will hold a workshop on Co-Creation and Service Design within the framework of the courses of the Management Area of the school. A workshop that will explore collaboratively these methodologies of innovation and design focused on users, clients, managers, etc. Work will be done in small groups to apply the different techniques and help understand, through learning by doing, the possibilities that co- creation and service design bring to the creation of value, for people and businesses.

It will be hosted by Mercè Graell, coordinator of the master in Design Management and specialist in design research strategies and participative co-creation with users for service and business design. She is Design Manager in DESIGNIT, international design and innovation consultancy.

How does co-creation work for an innovative company?

Co-creation involves stakeholders actively in the design process to ensure that services and products meet or exceed needs and expectations of those they serve. Tools and techniques of co-creation work at collective level. Through the activation of collective creativity, people are empowered to work together to deploy their expectations, explore future scenarios and generate new opportunities thanks to their knowledge and experience. This way co-creation processes generate excellent results for innovation in design practice.

And what about Service Design?

A service can be defined as a series of interactions between user and company that generate value, in a given period of time. Service Design works to innovate in service delivery models to provide the best possible user experience, defining when and how to produce interaction with users (point of contact) to leave an imprint in people’s mind and reinforce customers’ loyalty. Thus, Service Design is the creation of value for users, for business and for organizations.

This workshop will teach how to direct people’s needs and expectations for the future in creating a service that proves them with value. Techniques like Experiencemapping (Co-creationn) and Userjourney (ServiceDesign), to mention some, will be applied.
