PAN MADRE. Designing bread

07-06-2019

From 7 to 9 June, IED Barcelona will be holding an exhibition at the Alvino Museum in Matera (Italy) to showcase the work produced by students in their Interdisciplinary Project subject, which involved a global and holistic immersion in the Food Design System concept inspired by bread, seeing it much more as an object and product than as food.

The “PAN MADRE. Designing Bread” exhibition is an invitation to envision future consumption scenarios where the experience of tasting, observing and sharing bread goes beyond sensory perception and the act of eating. Here, bread becomes a visual art, an olfactory experience, an object, and a biomaterial.

The exhibition is one of many activities set to take place in the Italian town of Matera in Basilicata, which has been named the 2019 European Capital of Culture. “Breadway – La vie del Pane” is the name of this wholesome festival jointly organised by the Matera 2019 Foundation and Murgia Madre which will be turning Matera into the European capital of mindful eating and life for four days.

The idea is to lead visitors on an experiential journey with a variety of performances, workshops, labs and more, as well as an international contest organised by the ADI to choose this year’s European Bread 2019.
