APDI OPEN DOORS
03-12-2019
On Tuesday 3 December from 16:00 onwards, the Professional Association of Lighting Designers [Asociación Profesional de Diseñadores de Iluminación] – APDI – will hold the event “APDI Open Doors” in collaboration with IED Barcelona; an interesting encounter with key players in the lighting industry that will include workshops, talks and networking sessions.
In this participatory dialogue session, the great lover of light Antoni Arola will share with participants the life journey that has shaped his 25 years of experience in the world of lighting, which he now invites us to celebrate with him. His common sense has enabled him to brilliantly approach an extremely transversal career within design, in which his dimension as a sculptor, his love of drawing and his interest in contemporary art have been key.
The first part of the programme will see the presentation of the Workshops on Innovation and Light, on behalf of the companies that sponsor APDI, in collaboration with lighting designers such as Mariel Fuentes, Alfred Sà, Javier Górriz, Sara Ortega Donoso, Gisela Steiger, Susana Barea, Mauro Vazquez, María Güell, Lara Elbaz, Maurici Ginés, Ana López Baldán and Carlos Sierra. The coordinator of the CSP in Smart Design and IED teacher Michela Mezzavilla (ReMM Studio) will also lead a workshop during the meeting.
The event will also include a brief presentation of the project Women in Lighting by its ambassador in Spain Esther Torelló, of the magazine lightecture. Women in Lighting is an international initiative led by Light Collective, already present in more than 50 countries, that gives visibility to female lighting designers. The initiative emerged with the aim to promote their successes, celebrate their projects and, as a consequence, increase their presence within the sector.
To end the day, and to celebrate APDI’s 10th anniversary, a few beers along with a finger buffet will be served in solidarity with the project sObres Mestres, a pop-up restaurant that aims to avoid food waste by using recovered and fresh “kilometre zero” food, organised by the designer and founder of the project, Nikoleta Theodoridi.
