On the verge between art and technology in fashion at YoMo Festival

Barcelona’s mobile technology week reveals the new ideas and hi-tech trends that will be taking over our daily lives. The Mobile World Congress will be taking place from 24th to 28th of February in a new edition that revolves around smart connectivity and how technology can be used to achieve highly assertive and customised experiences.

In connection with this event, IED Barcelona will once again be presenting a Fashion Tech Show during The Youth Mobile Festival. Ten outfits designed by students from the Undergraduate Degree in Fashion Design and the BA (Hons) in Fashion Design will star as the main feature of an experimental performance put on by the artist and dancer Enrique Perezalba Red.

Their creations were conceived during a workshop that called students to question the systems used to conceptualise, produce and manufacture clothing through digitalisation. This sparked a dialogue between art, design and technology moderated by Noumena, Appareil and Lowpoly. The workshop introduced new methodologies that could succeed in replacing today’s systems and finding new “zero waste” alternatives to turn fashion into a more ethical and sustainable industry.
