Introduction

The Creative Process in Product Design introduces and develops the creative thinking + design process methodology, typical of a designer.

Each Product Designer follows a series of steps oriented towards developing an idea, in order to shape it and turn it into a product or service that responds to users’ needs and which is successful in the market. It is a personal process, but it begins from a structured methodological basis that IED certifies as the key to designers’ success.

As part of IED Barcelona’s Design First programmes, this online course provides the tools for remote working and new methodologies over six modules: Context, Trends + Inspiration, Ideation, Creation, Project + Prototype and Communication.

Objectives

– Understand what constitutes the creative process in Product Design.

– Discover how great designers create and develop their creative proposals.

– Become acquainted with the steps to follow to gain inspiration, generate ideas, create and communicate them.

– Apply a method that enables creative talent to be fostered and unleashed.

Methodology

As a Project-Based Learning (PBL) course, students are provided with the necessary e-learning tools to drive collaborative working techniques in the realisation of projects.

The subjects are structured around three axes, to facilitate learning and the practical application of the knowledge acquired:

Method

How to tackle each creative stage and which strategies to employ, following the advice of experts and discovering their experiences when it comes to differentiating proposals and ideas.

Tools

What are the most effective tools to develop each stage of the creative process, and the best instruments to foster creativity and teamwork.

Application

Guided by the teacher, in each stage progress is made towards the development of a creative project that solidifies the skills acquired in dominating a method and utilising tools.

Student Profile

The course is aimed at people who have a vocation for the creative disciplines, but have never been able to delve deeper into their methodology, secrets and tools. It is also conceived for those who want to explore the territories of creativity, understand them and discover a possible professional development towards creative companies or creative profiles, which are increasingly in demand in the labour market.

Job Opportunities

The Creative Process in Product Design course is conceived as an initial contact with this discipline before deciding to study an Undergraduate or BA (Hons) Degree.

Completion of the course does not guarantee access to degree courses; however, it offers the student an excellent practical pathway to evaluate in which direction they wish to channel their future career.

Product Design Graduate from IED Barcelona. She has participated in innovation projects in CERN, VidaCaixa R+D and the elBullifoundation. For the last three years, she has been working as a Designer in the Marcel Wanders studio in Amsterdam. 

CREDITS

The educational planning for all IED Master courses is aligned with the criteria established by the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). The IED Master  program adopts a credit structure that follows the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). IED Master only awards its own private degrees.
