COLLECTION: HONG KONG 1957
Hong Kong 1957 recalls the trip of the designer’s grandmother, Pauline, from Sydney to Hong Kong, where she spent four months. Her stay in such a thriving and vibrant place had a profound impact on her, which remained over time.
The collection combines the extravagance of the eastern and western worlds, focusing on the luxury and excess present in Pauline’s experiences during that journey. It also aims to reflect how misleading this impression of reality can be, an aspect present in society today.
Vibrant colors and attention to detail are central elements of the proposal. The looks combine moulage, to investigate the possibilities of volume, and tailoring, which represents the strong presence of traditional Chinese clothing.
Ex aequo winner of the Franca Sozzani Award for Best Collection at Fashioners of the World 2020.
