Official communication about the Under-Graduate Degree Titles

We inform you that IED is in constant contact with both the Regional Ministry of Education of the Autonomous Community of Catalunya and with the Spanish Ministry of Education regarding the sentence handed down on 13th January 2012 by Section Four of the Administrative Chamber of the Supreme Court which overrules the seventh Additional Provision of Royal Decree 1614/2009.

Both the Regional and State Ministries assure us that there is no cause for alarm and that the aforesaid ruling does not affect the official status of the courses, the equivalence of the degrees with university degrees or their validity within the European Higher Education Area.

Said ruling involves a change in the nomenclature of the degrees granted by, amongst others, Higher Design Centres, which will be renamed "Higher Education Certificates" and not "Degree Certificates". The Ministry of Education of the Autonomous Community of Catalunya itself informs us that, given the expected appeal to the Constitutional Court, until a final ruling is handed down the oficial nomenclature shall continue to be "Degree".
